The EU – Communitity initiative LEADER+ within the Mecklenburgischen Seenplatte - Müritz

With the Leader Community Initiative promoted the EU from 1991 to 2006 the development of rural areas. Leader is in the promotion period from 2007 to 2013 a part of ELER, the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, as the second collumn of the Common Agriculture Policy (GAP).

LEADER is an abbreviation of "Liaison entre actions de développement de l´économie rurale “and translated into English means: “Alliance for campains for the development of rural economy”.

The Müritz- Region is engaged in the Leader process since 1995. With the support of LEADER II an important contribution to successful support of the touristic infrastructure could be built. A brief overview of these projects can be found in the Link:Leader II archive.

2001 the LEADER + initiative started it´s third period (from 2000 to 2006).

The main focus of this funding period lays in the networking of diverse tourist offers and the necessary development of infrastructure.

All in all, more than 80 individual projects could be supported with over € 4.5 million funds since 1995.

The Leader Group Mecklenburgische Seenplatte – Müritz updated it’s regional development concept Link:FUN KITII for the new funding period 2007 - 2013.

A priority in the work of the LAG remains networking of tourist areas.

And in addition to that projects which deal with the consequences of the demographic change in the region, are given priority treatment as well.
